Home Depot Pulls Plans to Build

By Tom Britt Print Preview

Lawrence city officials found out last week that Home Depot is not coming to town. This store was going to be the anchor tenant of a major downtown revitalization project, now Lawrence will have to build the tax base (small pun intended) on someone else.

I do wish they would put more emphasis on 56th Street than Pendleton Pike. Drive into Lawrence off of 56th Street and you see a 5-star school, trees, a beautiful state park, historic buildings, soccer fields, a thriving finance center, more trees, coffee shops, and I can go on. Drive down Pendleton Pike, er I mean "Lawrence Parkway", and you see strip clubs, car lots, latino car lots, another strip club, a cash'n go, another car lot...wait, I just passed downtown Lawrence!

What happened to Marsh coming to Lawrence? How about a mini-mall of sorts? Library?
