On the 4th of July itself, the City of Lawrence hosts the only Independence Day parade held on the 4th of July in all of Marion County. This year the parade theme is “Patriotism” and the Grand Marshall is MG Martin Umbarger, the Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard for the State of Indiana. The parade will be led by a horse mounted color guard and will feature many U.S. military components, including the 38th Division Band. At 11:15 AM, a flyover is scheduled consisting of two A-10 fighter jets. The City also welcomes the Gordon Pipers to its parade this year. The celebration will conclude with one of the most spectacular fireworks shows in Marion County, which will begin at 10:00 PM.
